Gothenburg, the port town of Sweden, with its old world charm is worth spending 2-3 days in. A destination that allows a slow, unhurried pace of existence, Gothenburg or `Goteborg’ in Swedish is the largest port of the Nordic countries. And that’s how my stay at this archipelago was – relaxed and unhurried!

Gothenburg is closer to Sweden’s nature than any other city, with its plethora of parks and green spaces. Experiencing the real feel of life during the vibrant, summer season, as locals were out and about was interesting. From enjoying get-togethers in parks, to nature walks, sunbathing near the river, lingering at cafes, or dining late into the night seemed to be the norm.

Opting For Train Travel Wherever Possible

Train journeys have their own charm, and I prefer traveling by this efficient mode of transportation as much as possible when in Europe. What better way to travel from Oslo to Gottenburg than by a super fast express that was  so quick and convenient.

Gothenborg, Sweden

Art, Culture & History

Contemplating  whether to visit the Museum of Art or simply hop onto a tram and admire things around, I chose the former, and was happy that I did it. The art museum featuring masterpieces and art-work by well known artists was definitely worth exploring.

After the museum tour, which took about two hours, we were famished, but couldn’t locate any eateries nearby. And that’s when the handy digital device – the mobile phone came to our rescue !

Isn’t it amazing how technology helps us?

You can search for anything at the touch of a button and get the answers instantly. A quick online search, led us to a nearby restaurant just 200 meters away, where we ate a scrumptious lunch.

The hotel room where I stayed, turned out to be a pleasant surprise. Located on a higher floor, it was comfortable and plush, offering sweeping views of the cityscape, that enhanced the overall experience. The combination of plush amenities and stunning vistas made for a fine stay.

The people of Sweden have a profound connection with nature. Whenever the weather permits (which is not often due to the extended winter and snowy seasons from October to April), people flock to the outdoors . The short summers provide the perfect opportunity for Swedes to slow down, relish the beauty of their surroundings, and savor the joy of being in the present moment.

The Compact Layout of Gothenburg Makes It Easy To Explore On Foot

With no fixed agenda, we strolled around in the central area near the river `Gota Alv’, absorbing the vibe of the place, getting into shopping areas, lanes, and by-lanes. It was refreshing, especially since it wasn’t raining! Everything was bathed in golden sunshine, accompanied by fresh air and pleasant weather.

A short while later, and without realizing it, found ourselves in front of the Botanic Gardens.  Though, had not planned a trip to Europe’s largest and most prominent gardens,  decided to go inside as we were already there. However, couldn’t stay long as had another plan – to visit Gothenburg port. So we left early as wanted to reach the waterfront before sunset.

The port is an important landmark of the city, where you can see the grand, Swedish ship `Gotheburg’. A walk along the harborside and the `Gulbergskajen’ pier offers picturesque views. Ending the last day of our stay in Goteborg in this way, sitting at the water’s edge, admiring different types of fascinating ships and boats docked there, and the cool, fresh breeze was rejuvenating.

The Universe is peppered with breathtaking, natural wonders that are stunning and inspire awe in those who are fortunate enough to witness them. From silvery, cascading waterfalls to magnificent mountain peaks, these remarkable creations of nature showcase Earth’s incredible beauty and power.

Being an avid traveler, I have covered almost all of the world’s most famous tourist spots, yet there is still a lot to explore. In this selection, I’ll introduce you to 7 of my favorite natural wonders of the world, which I had the privilege of seeing. Each offering a unique and mesmerizing glimpse into the splendors of our planet.

Grand Canyon National Park

A trip to the Casino capital of the world Las Vegas, Nevada would be incomplete without visiting one of the Wonders of the World nearby — the Grand Canyon! Located in the state of Arizona, it takes approximately one and a half hours, first by bus and then helicopter, to reach the Grand Canyon National Park from the Las Vegas Strip. We took this route — the easiest way to get there! Make sure to pre-book all the tickets in advance, as slots fill up really fast.

This was the most unique, natural phenomenon I have ever set eyes on. The stunning views of the enormous flame-colored walls plunging 4800 feet down into the gorge of the Colorado river is absolutely intriguing. No wonder that the Canyons are a World Heritage site.

Discover incredible aerial views aboard the helicopter ride as it soars over the park’s most astounding rock formations and features! The exposed layers of colorful rocks are created by the incision of the Colorado river and its tributaries. Also visible are the Navajo Bridge and Lake Mead, from the chopper.

Jungfrau Peak

Jungfrau in the Swiss Alps is one of the highest and most famous mountain peaks in Europe. The summit being at a height of 13,500 feet above sea level, has temperatures below sub zero level throughout the year. Our trip to this place was full of excitement and adventure, even though it was freezing.

Amazingly, even at such a height, this mighty mountain range is connected with a rail system (built-in 1912), covering most of the distance inside the mountain itself. A superb choice and mode of travel, intermediate stations with panoramic windows provide splendid outside views of the alpine region. The Eurorail system is absolutely top-class — sleek, well-maintained, and super fast.

My heart skipped a beat when the train ascended a steep mountain, and as it moved further, intriguing mountains covered in snow were visible all around. We eventually arrived at our destination, after passing through a series of tunnels…….an extremely cold, water-dripping station.

Full-length glass windows on the viewing deck provide travelers with spectacular sights of the vast, pure white mountain range. Truly seemed like paradise!! Despite being bone-chillingly cold, my family and I nonetheless went outside in the slippery, creamy snow. Kids thoroughly enjoyed playing in the snow. Though after a while a blizzard negated all visibility and numbed by the intense cold, we had to hurry back inside the ice museum.

Twelve Apostles

Next on my list are the incredible `Twelve Apostles‘ …….an out of the world creations of nature on the east coast of Australia. Formed by the action of winds and waves, over thousands of years, the twelve (currently eight are visible) limestone pillars emerging from the ocean are a highly recommended tourist spot in Australia.

Stunning sights of the aquamarine ocean and the rocky landscape can be enjoyed from the serpentine road stretching all along the cliff, which serves as the viewing area. Tourists also have the option of taking a chopper ride to get a bird’s eye view of the entire region. Equally enchanting is the three-and-a-half-hour drive from Melbourne, along the scenic Ocean road, amidst forests on one side and ocean vistas on the other.

Rohtang Pass

This Himalayan getaway, situated 51 kms from Manali in Himachal Pradesh, India, though quite treacherous to reach, yet is worth being to. All the way an uphill climb, along steep, narrow roads. Situated at an altitude of 13,060 feet above sea level, the spot offers stunning views of snow-capped peaks and glaciers. Though this trip was not undertaken recently, it’s still fresh in my memory.

En route, there is a stop-over at `Snow Point’, where there is enough snow to create a snowman. People irrespective of their age, enjoy playing in the snow, rolling snowballs and hurling at each other or just moving around, and lounging in the soft, fluffy snow.

Tourists have to take those furry snow caps, gloves, jackets, and boots available on rent here in order to cope with the sub-zero temperatures and icy winds. There is also an option of taking a break at the village of Kothi, which is a fabulous spot amidst alpine meadows and the most phenomenal river Beas as it comes roaring down through a deep gauge.

Due to its heavy spells of snowfall, this exotic location is an ideal destination for adventure sports like skiing. This required some expertise, so we opted for the safer option of merely sliding on the snowy slopes in a huge rubber tube. There are also other activities like horse riding and even short, rafting trips on the river, for kids above 12 years.

The most fascinating part of this trip was obviously the snow and the gorgeous views around. Wherever you gaze, you will find the pristine, white snow covering the entire landscape. An absolutely divine feeling!

Folks if you are planning for your next adventure or simply seeking inspiration, choose from this list, our planet offers a diverse range of experiences that cater to every traveler’s desire.

Top Adventure Experiences In The World

Each of us have had our fair share of holidays to multitudes of places on this planet. Being spellbound by the beauty of nature – mountains, lakes, beaches, landscapes on one hand and marveling at the architectural wonders of cities on the other is the essence of these getaways. What stands out the most are invariably the adventurous experiences on these trips that we recall and feel good.

This blog is about out of the world experiences, from helicopter journeys to sub-marine tours, that not only elevate our travel experiences, are thrilling and fill our hearts with exuberance.

Here are some top adventure experiences in the world that travelers ought to undertake to make their holidays fulfilling.

TITLIS ROTAIR, ENGELBERG, SWITZERLAND

We all love being on cable cars, zooming over misty mountains and eye-catching views. And if you are on a vacation to Switzerland , then an experience that unmistakably surpasses even that is a ride on the huge, revolving Rotair to reach the summit of Mt. Titlis in Switzerland 3000 meters above sea level. This huge glass ropeway, is one of the biggest that I’ve ever seen, accommodating up to 20 people at a time.

Switzerland

Top Adventure Experiences In The World

Six times the size of a normal cable car, I was initially  apprehensive, gazing at it’s size and the steep rock terrain around. Thankfully that soon  dissipated as I was coaxed into joining my family, and am glad I went ahead ! Soaring high up into the clouds, not knowing  where you are heading due to low visibility, getting 360 degree views of deep crevasses and the  distant snow covered mountain peaks of the Swizz Alps was the most exhilarating experience.

How to reach

First take the cable car from Engelberg to the middle station, Stand from where you’ll get the Rotair the world’s biggest and first rotating cable car – the Rotair . The last trip is at 5 pm, so plan accordingly.

Be sure to be well covered from top to toe in warm clothes, as you may have to face freezing temperatures and icy cold winds.

Another fun experience in this white world of  glaciers is  the ice flyer expedition, where you slide over amazing panorama  of mountains and valleys on an open swing this time. Floating at full speed with the icy, moisture laden wind and clouds in your face, it’s quite safe though bit scary. A family of four can sit comfortably on this `Ice Flyer Chair Lift’.

HELICOPTER TOUR GRAND CANYON

If you want to have a perfect trip of the Grand Canyon, then opt for a helicopter ride. Undoubtedly, that’s the best way to reach and enjoy the magnificent Grand Canyon. An added benefit is the pilot taking up the role of a guide, sharing the evolution and features of the canyons and indicating all important landmarks on the way of this intriguing natural wonder.

GRAND CANYON

As the glitzy, scarlet colored chopper whizzes up into the clear blue skies and sunshine, it is one of the most thrilling adventure ever. You’ll pass through lake Mead and the Navajo bridge, looking like miniatures and the desert region of Arizona.

Twenty minutes into your 40 minute long trip, the canyons begin. Feeling as though you are suspended between heaven and earth! Enjoy intriguing views not just sideways as you approach the canyons and are in level with the top parts of the walls and  layered rocks. Peering down below  too the sights of the vast desert landscape are out of the world literally. The meandering Colorado river, resembling  pure, grey silk. There’s something very mystical around this entire region, you’ve got to visit to know.

How to reach

Check with the hotel where you are staying, as most have information and the facility to book helicopter trips to the Grand Canyon. My hotel had helped with reservations. Usually there are two sets of trips – morning and afternoon. It’s best to opt for the morning tour, as you would be free by noon to explore other attractions. Though it starts slightly early in the morning – before eight, but tourists need not worry about transportation. Pick-up buses are available at the hotel itself to  transport tourists to the helicopter stations, taking about forty-five minutes to reach.

Maldives

 SUBMARINE DELIGHT, MALDIVES

If you wish to encounter fascinating marine creatures closely when you are in Maldives, that too few feet underwater then don’t miss a submarine ride. It would surely set your heart aflutter as the submarine plunges into the depths of the Indian ocean. The kaleidoscope of countless types of marine beings you encounter is enamoring. This adventurous experience certainly takes   underwater  life to  new heights or rather depths and is priceless.

Important Tips

Don’t carry heavy bags or luggage as space inside the vessel is limited

Electronic devices and mobile phones are strictly not to be used .

Reach the venue, that is somewhere in the capital Male at least half an hour before.
